It was another bumper Gala Day at The British International School last Saturday when the League hosted well over 1000 spectators to the U10 / U12 Greenfields Cup finals and the Gala Day Awards Ceremony.
In near perfect playing conditions there were victories for Dragons FC Jakarta, Jakarta Japan Club, Mentari Jakarta and Sekolah Victory Plus in the 4 finals before a 3 hour Awards Ceremony during which a whole host of cups and medals were handed-out. This was the 8th season of success for the League after starting in 2005 and the by far biggest season to date. When next Saturday at Sinar Mas World Academy we host the U8’s Awards this will bring the total Gala Day audiences to over 2000 in all.
In the U10 C/D/E/F Division final Mentari Jakarta overcame a resolute Sekolah Avicenna, both from the U10C Division, by 2 goals to 1. This result was very far away from the lop-sided win that Mentari had enjoyed over the same team way back in early January. Avicenna has been improving all season and was unlucky not to win on the day.
In the blue ribbon U10 A/B final Dragons FC went down again on penalties, after losing-out in similar circumstances in 2 penalty shoot-outs last Saturday in the U14 / U16 finals, to a highly committed JJC side form the B division. This followed an exciting 3-3 draw in normal playing time during which both sides had led at some stage in the game. JJC combined the Greenfields Cup with their B division league title and succeeded in doing the double Greenfields and Coca-Cola B division title for the first time.
In the U12’s, Secular Bogor Raya, runners-up from U12E Divison went down valiantly against U12D champions Victory Plus by 5 goals to 2. It was always going to Victory’s day when they went ahead early on and never looked really threatened in their highly impressive red and white strips highly reminisant of Stoke City from the Premier League..
And in the final game, it was victory at last for Dragons FC in the U12 A/B final and their only win so far in 4 final appearances when they saw off Mentari Jakarta, Champions from U12B in a comfortable 3-0 win.
Next Saturday at Sinar mas World Academy , it is the U8’s finals which will finally bring the 2013 season officially to a close. It has been a another fantastic year of football for the 3500 players of so who have participated. We will have played closed to 900 goals in all over 13 playing weeks, so good luck to the U8’s next week in the gala event.
Well due to everybody concerned.
