- BIS IB CAS teams ready to rumble!
December 21, 2011
This season, which 'kicks off' January 7, students from The British International School, Jakarta, in the context of both the IB ‘CAS’ program (Yrs 12 and 13) and the Duke of Edinburgh International Award (Yrs 10 and 11), fielded three community teams in the JSFL: an U10 and an U12 team from BIS's neighbouring kampung, respectively Jombang Girls and Raynham; and an U14 team, Bulakan, comprising boys from a shanty near Pondok Ranji, Bintaro, most of whom attend the micro-school part-sponsored by BIS FC, called Sekolah Bisa! – and which, by design, opened its doors the day following last season’s JFSA Gala Award Ceremony.
Football is often called, perhaps quite blithely, “the beautiful game”. And so it may be, at times. But for the BIS students who collectively manage and coach the 3 teams, it’s beautiful in a deeper and more profound sense: in that each team exemplifies how, as young people, relatively privileged and with access to all manner of opportunities for sport, they found the composure to stop a moment to consider how it was for others.
